צואר

צַוָּאר, צַיָּוארm. (צָוַר = צָבַר, v. סַוָּאר) 1) pile. Ohol. III, 7, v. סַוָּאר. 2) (b. h.) neck, esp. the front of the neck, throat, opp. עוֹרֶף. Ḥull.I, 4. Sabb.58a שבצַוָּארוֹ, v. חוֹתָם; a. fr.Ab. Zar.30a, a. e. צלי וצל צַוָּארִי upon me and my throat, i. e. I take the responsibility. Y.Snh.VI, 23b bot. דמו תלוי בצַוַּאר עדים his blood be suspended from the neck of the witnesses, i. e. they will have to answer for the innocent blood; Bab. ib. 44b ויהא קולר תלוי בצ׳ עדים, v. קוֹלָר. Cant. R. to IV, 4 צַוָּאדֵךְ זה ביתוכ׳ ‘thy neck (ib.) means the Temple; שכל הימים … היה צַוָּארָן … פשיטוכ׳ for as long as the Temple stood, Israels neck was stretched (uplifted) among the nations Lam. R. to V, 5 (read:) על שבגדנו בצַוָּארֵנוּ בא יום צרה because we were faithless to our ‘neck (the Temple), the day of distress came; a. fr.Sabb.90b צַוָּארֵי דקל Ms. M., v. צוּר III.
